Saturday Sew Along - Sept. 25

This Saturday, September 25, we will have our monthly meeting at A Nimble Thimble at 2:30. We will be finishing up our quilted potholder and going through each of the steps required of making a quilt. We will also discuss what project we would like to work on next or if we would like to work on personal projects in the company of friends. Please bring your materials for the potholder and also come with ideas for our club and the direction we would like to take it.

Materials List for Quilted Potholder

• 9X9 quilt block (9 patch previously made)
• 10X10 in coordinating square for the backing of your potholder
• 42X2 1/4 in strip for the binding (42 inches long X 2 1/4 inches wide)
• 2 10X10 in blocks of low loft quilt batting
• 10X10 in block of denim, tweed, canvas or other heavy fabric (you might have a little leftover from your tote that would work good here, or an old pair of jeans or scraps around the house...its going on the inside of the potholder so don't spend a lot of money on it - SCRAP!)
• sewing machine with electric cord and foot pedal (you need to know how to lower your feed dogs, so bring your machine's manual if you do not know how)
• basic sewing supplies
• about 6 safety pins (quilters pins if possible)
• darning foot or free motion foot for your sewing machine (if you don't have this, no worries, you can use my machine and then decide if you even like the free motion quilting before you go and buy a foot)

We are first going to square up our quilt block if you haven't already

Next we will make the quilt sandwich and free motion quilt it

Last we will make the binding and bind the whole potholder

Wow...what a summer! I can't believe we are already nearing the end of September. We have had a few changes around here at In Stitches. We as a club have decided to hold only once a month meetings. This meeting will be on the 4th Saturday of each month at 2:30 at A Nimble Thimble. Please join us this Saturday, September 25 for our first meeting since starting back to school.

Saturday Sew Along meeting

Hi Everyone! We have our 2nd In Stitches meeting tomorrow, Saturday, July 26th at A Nimble Thimble. We are having a Saturday Sew Along and making our sewing tote. Check out the materials list below. See you there....and don't forget to bring your friends!

Materials:
1 yard of home decor cotton fabric (you will want a more sturdy fabric to give your bag body).
If you feel comfortable, go ahead and cut out your pieces beforehand.
2 pieces measuring 20"X21" for the front and back of your bag
2 pieces measuring 5"X26" for the handles
2 pieces measuring 10"X10" for the pocket
coordinating thread and bobbin
scissors
straight pins - I like to use quilting pins since they are longer for this thicker fabric
sewing machine - don't forget your electric cord and foot pedal!
